Behind the Curtain #7: Come Fly With Me

It's June already? How did that happen? I swear I was making New Year's resolutions, I sneezed, and here we are, nearly halfway through the year.

Just as this month has snuck up on me, this week snuck up on me and I'm feeling a bit rushed to get this post up -- my apologies if it reads rushed or half-hearted as a result! Since the last update in ✨The Wonderful World of Heidi-Liz Johnson✨, I've opened and closed just about every project mentioned in that last post, and I am so pleased and proud to have been a part of every one. I'm feeling very blessed to be working consistently in the theatre for the majority of 2024, especially with so many amazing artists, voices, talents, scripts, and librettos.

Another update from the last post is that Mychal's tour wrapped and he is back home! I cannot even begin to express how proud I am of him for his incredible work in Little Women (I could go absolutely on and on about how flawless he was in that role / show, that's a whole post on its own), but I can't deny it's been my biggest joy to have him back in the house -- as we were constantly saying while apart, it's the best feeling just to exist in the same space again. As I'm writing this, Mychal is in the other room self-taping, and I can't help but smile: his presence makes our house a home again, and my heart is happy.

So what's up next for me? In the last post, I briefly mentioned a regional project on the horizon that will take up my summer, and in an overabundance of caution simply because I don't have "official official" confirmation that I can publicly share about it, I can't quite announce what it is, BUT. I will say that its coming up fast and furious -- in fact, I'm getting on a plane to get started with said project ONE WEEK FROM TODAY (now do you see what I mean about June sneaking up on me, I definitely have not started packing). So much to do in so little time, I have no doubt that this week will disappear before I can catch my breath. But all that to say, I am very excited to get started, if not a little nervous -- it's my turn being away from home, and it's an intimidating feeling, especially so soon after reuniting with Mychal. But this is the job sometimes, going where the work is and where they want you, and I'm lucky to have the most supportive husband to do life with, to cheer me on, and to have him hold down the fort while I'm away.

So if you wanna go on an adventure with me this summer, watch my Instagram for the official announcement and stick around both on the blog and on the socials to keep up with all the adventuring: there's bound to be some brimstone.

Thanks for reading, #DreamTeamHLJ, and enjoy your summer!
