In the grand scheme, a year is not a long time, but when you stop to think just how much can change in that time, a year can feel like a lifetime. Late last week (June 28th) was the one-year anniversary of this blog, and it also means I've been pursuing the acting dream "full-time" for a little over a year. First of all, that is absolutely WILD to me; I feel so blessed, looking back over the experiences and opportunities I've had in that short amount of time. The simple fact that I get to be writing this in the midst of a contract -- during which I'll be performing two shows in rep -- in my first away-from-home regional production with such a stellar group of creatives and performers blows me away. I am very fortunate to be here.
It is with all of that in mind that I have to reframe my own expectations of myself in terms of 'Til I Try, I'll Never Know.
When I started this blog a year ago, it was partially to document what it's like to be a new actor in the big city, but it was also a means to keep me creatively occupied and exercising my writing muscles while waiting for my "breaks" to come. And while I have absolutely loved writing these weekly posts, as I have taken on every new project, I fear that the weekly schedule has only become more daunting and impossible to make time for. In fact, I'm currently writing this during week two of Mary Poppins performances and following the first day of rehearsal for my surprise rep project, Lyle the Crocodile. It's just not feasible for me to keep up with the schedule that I set for myself a year ago when my day-to-day has changed so much.
As I was starting to feel the pressure of the weekly post a couple months back, I convinced myself that I would continue posting until the one-year mark and then reevaluate. I'm very proud of myself for sticking to that promise I made myself, but now that we're here, I have to allow myself grace and change the plan.
So! First of all, of course 'Til I Try, I'll Never Know is not going anywhere! Please feel free to revisit or reread past posts as frequently as you'd like -- there's a whole year's worth of material that I'm pretty pleased with. Second of all, while I will no longer be posting every Wednesday, I will be posting on my own terms on an "every-so-often" basis, when inspiration hits / when time allows. Third of all, I still have plenty of ideas for topics that I'd like to cover in the future, but if you have any specific questions for me and/or would like to make requests for topics that I write about down the road, please do not hesitate to ask! I'll still be available via the Contact page, or you can track me down on Instagram, @heidilizjohnson. Instagram is where I am posting most frequently these days in terms of what projects I'm working on and what's happening in my life, so feel free to follow along there if you'd like! Lastly, let me simply say that I so appreciate those of you who have so devotedly read along every single week. Your readership and support means more than I could ever say.
Thanks for reading, #DreamTeamHLJ, and in the words of Mary Poppins, 'til we meet again!
